Birding Ecosse April 2018 Tour – Part 4: El Torcal and Fuente de Piedra Lake

We left our final day for the Flamingos lake and El Torcal.

Have a look at some more pictures and the complete list of birds observed below!

The easterly winds that were blowing today and the day before brought so much moisture from the sea that the fog was rather thick around every mountain peak, so we decided to start our trip visiting the Peñarrubia Cliff on the way to the Laguna Dulce and the Fuente de Piedra Lake.

There was a heavy traffic of Griffon Vultures at the Peñarrubia Cliff, with Choughs flying around and the Peregrine Falcon presiding the heights.

The Laguna Dulce was looking very good. There, the group was delighted with very close views of Greater Flamingos, Great Crested Grebe, Red-crested Pochards, Spanish Sparrows and even a BlackTern.

We had great views of Gull-billed Terns flying after a tractor ploughing and olive grove, and a glimpse of an almost completely dark morph of a Montagu’s Harrier.

The walk around the Visitors Centre gave us Whiskered Tern, more Flamingos, Yellow Wagtails of different races, White Stork and Black-headed Gull, Red-crested Pochard and White-headed Duck at the Laguneto.

Unfortunately, the mist was still very thick at El Torcal though we could spot Black Redstart, Blackcap, Blue Tit and Rock Bunting to put the end of a fantastic week around birds (129 diferent species in total), in stunning sceneries and great company.

You can also live these experiences with us !!!
