Birding around Casares (Costa del Sol, Malaga, Andalucia, Southern Spain)

The Sierra Crestellina is a beautiful place for great birding from Casares, and very close to Estepona and Marbella on the Costa del Sol.

Have a look at the pictures and the complete list of birds below!

The Sierra Crestellina is the most western sierra in the province of Malaga. The silhouette of the Griffon Vultures soon shows up over the ridges as you approach Casares.

The climb to the Puerto de las Viñas goes across a nice Mediterranean forest where we could spot most of the typical birds including Crested Tit, Firecrest, Short-toed Treecreeper  and Great Spotted Woodpecker. A pair of Booted Eagles still dominates the valley before departing to Africa in the coming days.

We also saw some migrant birds like Bee-eaters, Short-toed Eagle and a few Honey Buzzards in flight over the hills, and Willow Warblers nervously moving in the trees.

But we are surrounded by hills and peaks in the valley and mountain birds like Raven, Blue Rock Thrush, Crag Martin, Chough and Peregrine Falcon came out during the trip.
